Are you looking for the best tacos on Long Island? It’s a very important decision and should not be made lightly. Tacos are key. Key I say. Your chosen taco shop should be close to your home (in case of a late-night taco craving), should serve a good hearty portion for an affordable price, and should know the perfect ratio of a perfect taco.
That’s a lot of requirements, but you don’t have to settle for anything less as Long Island has more than 50 taco spots that are definitely up to the task. Here’s a review of 54 of the best tacos on Long Island. It’s a pretty extensive list packed with good food, good drink, and good times.
Best Tacos on Long Island: Nassau County
Here’s a list of 20 of the best tacos on Long Island…in Nassau County. The spots are all unique and offer some great tacos and more. Some holes in the wall, some trendy, some with great bars, and some with no drinks to speak of. It’s all about the tacos, though…the best tacos on Long Island!!!
5 de Mayo
5 de Mayo is an incredible restaurant in Westbury serving some of the best tacos on Long Island where you can enjoy live music, bright colorful decor, lively atmosphere, and authentic Mexican food, including quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas, burritos, and tacos. Oh, those tacos! Imagine three large handmade corn tortillas filled to the brim with onions, cilantro, and the topping of your choosing (shrimp, meat, sausages, or fish) and served with rice and beans on the side. If your mouth isn’t watering by now, I can only assume that you hate food. But if you do love food and you are suddenly craving a taco de pezcado, 5 de Mayo is open daily: from noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 11 p.m. on Fridays, and noon to midnight on weekends.

Avo Taco
No one takes tacos more seriously than Avo Taco who – well, you can guess by the name – lives and breathes this delicious Mexican dish. There are four types of veggie tacos, six seafood, four chicken, three pork, and five beef ones. It’ll take you almost a month to try them all if you eat one taco a day, but it’s a worthy quest. Or just visit them on Tuesday and get three tacos for $11. These are not only some of the best tacos on Long Island, but also some of the most innovative.

Caracara
The Caracara Mexican restaurant might catch your eye with its beautiful decor and relaxed ambiance, but it’ll steal your heart with its chicken skillet tacos. Besides the chicken toppings, you can check out the Mahi Mahi fish, pork, steak, and shrimp tacos.
Caracara is open every day, but the opening hours depend on the day of the week. From Monday to Thursday, you can stop by from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the restaurant works from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. And on Sundays, the opening hours are 11:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Dirty Taco + Tequila
If the word ‘dirty’ makes you uncomfortable when it’s used to describe food, then you don’t understand truly delicious food, which makes you forget everything in the world, including proper table manners. When you eat tacos made by Dirty Taco + Tequila, things might get messy, but you won’t care. Your hands and clothes might get dirty, but it’ll be worth it.
This hybrid of a Los Angeles taco truck and Miami liquor stand puts a twist in already-more-than-perfect classical Mexican cuisine by adding your favorite Asian flavors. Picture a corn tortilla filled with Kung Pao Chicken, Thai Salmon, Korean Short Rib, or Vietnamese Shrimp, and tell me if you can think of a creation that can top that. I doubt it. Innovate, fun, and some of the best tacos on Long Island make all of their locations super popular and sometimes tough to get into. But it’s worth the wait!
Dirty Taco + Tequila is available in three locations on Long Island – Wantagh, Woodbury, and Rockville Centre. All three are closed on Mondays, but on other days, they are open until 11 p.m.; you can find out the hours here.

DJ’s Clam Shack
When it comes to DJ’s Clam Shack, I’ve got only two words for you – fantastic seafood. So whenever you are in the mood for a fish or shrimp taco, that’s the place you want to be. I know, this is a seafood shack…but they do have some of the best tacos on Long Island. Trust me!
Two blackened Mahi Mahi or shrimp tacos served with french fries or coleslaw cost $13 and will make a fan out of you with only one bite. Don’t like it blackened? No worries, you can have it grilled or fried instead. Besides the mind-blowing fish and shrimp tacos, you can have chicken or pork ones. They are amazing, too, don’t get me wrong, but visiting DJ’s Clam Shack and not trying their specialty (as in seafood) seems like a waste unless you are allergic to seafood; in that case, you should totally go for the meat tacos.
The opening hours of DJ’s Clam Shack are different depending on the day of the week, so pay attention. They work 11:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on Sundays and Mondays, 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Doma Land + Sea
Doma Land + Sea, just like the name suggests, is a fabulous restaurant that focuses on providing you with high-quality steaks and locally sourced fish. While it might be a bit expensive as it’s not another of the taco-centric places you are used to, don’t rush to write it off as good for steak and sushi only. The tacos they offer are simply incredible. The Barbacoa Beef Tacos are a heavenly combo of a soft tortilla, 24-hour braised BBQ brisket, pickled onions, cilantro, sour cream, french fry, and chili aioli. The Veracruz Fish Tacos consist of grilled Mahi Mahi, cilantro, cabbage slaw, tomatillo salsa, and spicy mayo. If these Mexican dishes sound that delicious when you just read about them, imagine how great it’ll be to eat them? Easily some of the best tacos on Long Island.
Doma Land + Sea welcomes you every day except for Friday. Monday through Thursday, they are open from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. You can visit from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Saturday and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

Large portions, cheap prices, fresh products, finger-licking-good sauces – perfection exists and can be found in El Mercadito. These is a super authentic, really great joint that serves some of the best tacos on Long Island for sure.

El Paso Authentic Taco Grill
El Paso Authentic Taco Grill doesn’t look like much from the outside, and the interior decor isn’t exactly high-class. Plenty of customers notice that the food takes quite a while to prepare, too. And usually, these things would have been more than enough for you to say, “Nope, I’m not going there”, but it’s El Paso Taco Grill we’re talking about. Anyone who knows how good their food and tacos are doesn’t care about the appearances and is ready to wait hours just to taste it again.
When you visit the eatery, do try the Birria tacos – three soft corn tortillas dipped into beef stew liquid, fried until crispy, topped with beef stew, onions, cilantro, and served with lime and hot sauce on the side. Delicious doesn’t even start to describe the whole experience!
El Paso Taco Grill is open daily from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

El Tazumal
If you are looking for a low-price Salvadoran restaurant, El Tazumal is a perfect choice. You’ll love the prices, the generous portions, the authentic taste, and the cozy atmosphere created by the friendly, outgoing staff. There are plenty of seafood options, but the small eatery truly shines with meat. It’s best to go as a company so that you can try all the great things they have to offer and choose your favorite. Order the chicken and beef tacos with rice and beans on the side, pupusas, and fried chicken, and thank me later.
El Tazumal is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, you can visit the eatery from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Fat Boys Burrito
Fat Boys Burrito is a casual Mexican eatery where you can trust the staff to get you food with lightning speed and in enormous portions. Although you can’t call Fat Boys Burrito an authentic Mexican restaurant since they experiment with recipes a lot and add stuff like fries, mac & cheese, tater tots, somehow it all works out beautifully. Just don’t come here looking for traditional authentic Mexican food, otherwise, you might leave disappointed; instead, open your mind and taste buds to unique tacos, quesadillas, burritos, sweets, and salads.
Some of the tacos Long Islanders love include Crispy Chicken Taco (honey sriracha chicken fingers with lettuce, onions, and fat sauce) and BBQ Tacos (including Korean BBQ and BBQ Shrimp). But honestly, it doesn’t matter what you order because it’s all incredible! You can even randomly pick any dish with closed eyes, and you’ll love it.

I Am Nacho Mama
You know that the food is truly worth your time and money when a food truck puts down roots and goes brick-and-mortar. That’s what happened to I Am Nacho Mama: the small food truck just wasn’t enough to feed all regulars and foodies, so they opened a 32-seat eatery in Hicksville. But even with more space and tables, the restaurant remains superbusy because those who try Nacho Mama’s food just once get hooked forever.
Classic or build your own tacos served with pico de gallo and cheese, nachos with homemade tortilla chips, empanadas, burritos, quesadillas, salad, deserts – everything is so delicious, so perfect, so flawless; food just doesn’t get any better than this. This is a really fun and unique place serving up some of the best tacos on Long Island in a setting to match.

Mexican Grill 2000
Mexican Grill 2000 isn’t easy to find, but if you take the trip and take time to look for it in the strip mall, you’ll be rewarded with authentic Mexican food made with love and served hot and fresh. Lengua tacos are the best despite the minimum number of the most common ingredients (soft tortilla, cilantro, onions, and salsa) because the chef knows the perfect ratio. If you aren’t a fan of tongue tacos, go for the fish one instead – lightly breaded fresh red snapper topped with red cabbage, pico de gallo, house-made tangy sauce, and lime. Avacado salsa is also available for an additional charge.
Mexican Grill 2000 is open every day: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Right Coast Taqueria
Yes, Right Coast Taqueria doesn’t serve authentic Mexican food, but they aren’t trying to because they know that nothing can beat the tacos eaten in El Salvador. Instead, their cuisine is a mix of Spanish, Mexican, Central American, and other recipes, and it somehow works and wins hearts (or should I say stomachs?). And the best thing about it is that there is no such thing as too much filling for Right Coast Taqueria. So if you are never happy with portions at other taco spots, this is the dream place you were looking for. As for a recommendation, do try Mongolian Beef Tacos – crispy beef in a sweet soy glaze, cabbage, green onions, and chili sriracha aioli. Wait, did someone say birria tacos Long Island???

Swell Taco
Swell tacos aren’t the only good thing about Swell Taco; it also has swell decor, swell staff, and swell ambiance. In fact, you’ll find it very hard to find just one thing that isn’t swell in this place. Opened by siblings Brooke and Steve who grew up in California, Swell Taco is a California-like restaurant with a casual, relaxed, warm atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome. Plan your visit on Monday or Thursday so that you can try their special crispy chicken tacos, which are absolutely amazing. Best Tacos on Long Island: North Fork
Mattitaco
If Mattitaco existed 300 years ago, they’d be accused of witchcraft because no one can create something so beautiful using such basic ingredients without magic. And perhaps, this cute little eatery does use magic, but as long as we continue getting those delicious tacos, nobody has to know. You should definitely check out those exotic Bang Bang Cauliflower Tacos (sweet Thai chili, crispy cauliflower, mango salsa, lime aioli) and Hawaiian Tacos (stewed pork shoulder, smokey pineapple salsa).
Mattitaco is open seven days a week: 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Lucia Restaurant
How do you know if a taco is good or not? Just like with burgers, if there is a mess after you finish your taco, it was probably a proper taco (unless you generally are a messy eater). And a taco doesn’t get any more proper than at the Lucia restaurant. There are seven tacos you can try – shrimp, steak, chorizo, chicken, fish fillet, veggies, and carnitas -all served with pico de gallo and spicy green sauce. And for $18, you can get the Taco Party package, which includes one of each taco. It’s an awesome deal because all Lucia’s tacos are great and it’s really hard to choose one.
The opening hours of Lucia Restaurant are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
13000 Main Rd, Mattituck, L.I., NY 11952

Taco Bout It
If you’re having that kind of day and nothing seems right in this world, you, my friend, are in dire need of a Taco Bout It session. The festive and fun decor of this taqueria will immediately lift your spirits – nobody can stay grumpy when surrounded by that many bright colors – and Oaxacan chef Alejandro “Chicki” Ramirez will make sure that once you start your meal, you’ll forget all your worries. There will be only you and pure happiness in the form of a Mexican dish. To be sure you leave the restaurant fully content, order Birria tacos. This pulled slow-cooked beef that can be served on a soft or hard handmade corn tortilla with cilantro and onions (authentic style) or cheese and lettuce (American style) is simply out of this world.
When you visit Taco Bout It – and you can do that from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday – remember that it’s cash only.

Taqueria Cielito Lindo
A family owned and operated business, Taqueria Cielito Lindo has quite a reputation on social media, and you might have seen a post or two praising their tacos. If you didn’t take it as a sign to check this place out, the everloving higher power that wants the best for you is giving you another chance. Order delivery or go dine-in, but you have to try Cielito Lindo’s Al Pastor and Birria tacos. That’ll be hands down the most satisfying meal you’ll have ever had.
You can get your delicious taco from Taqueria Cielito Lindo from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

A lot of people think that cheap price equals bad quality, but Taqueria Mexico Lindo proves again and again that it’s possible to get a great taco for a very affordable price. In this casual eatery, you can have a tongue, BBQ pork, chicken, steak, chorizo taco for less a $2.5 – each with double shell, cilantro, and onions. 10 out of 10 people who have tried these tacos get hooked and recommend Taqueria Mexico to their loved ones. Maria’s Kitchen
If you ever find yourself on Shelter Island craving Mexican food right this second, Maria’s Kitchen and its magical Baja Fish Tacos have your back. Don’t get me wrong, they have a very extensive menu and literally everything prepared in the restaurant turns out a culinary masterpiece, but visiting Maria’s Kitchen without trying this amazing taco is like committing a crime. The mix of deep-fried white-fleshed fish with cabbage, chipotle mayo, avocado, and pico de gallo, served on corn or flour tortilla, is just mind-blowing. Baja Fish Taco costs $9.99, but the portion is huge, so one will be more than enough.
You can get a taco from Maria’s Kitchen as early as 8 a.m. and before 8 p.m. during summer. Winter hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Best Tacos on Long Island: The Hamptons and Montauk
Coche Comedor
Coche Comedor is a great upscale Mexican restaurant in the Hamptons. It’s a bit on the expensive side but still affordable. To fully enjoy all that Coche Comedor has to offer, come for a family dinner as a big group, order several dishes from across the menu, and share. It’ll be one of the most delicious meals you’ve had but only if you include mini crispy tuna tacos and birria tacos. Also, the bartender is an expert at creating lovely margaritas; take advantage of that, too. Don’t the barrio tacos look amazing?
Coche Comedor is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily and is walk-in only.
74A Montauk Hwy, Amagansett, L.I., NY 11930
Find out more by visiting cochecomedor.com or calling 631-267-5709.
La Fondita
If an upscale restaurant isn’t what you had in mind for dinner, don’t worry, it doesn’t mean you’ll have to drive far to satisfy your craving for Mexican food; the Hamptons has an amazing taco spot with prices that are more to your liking – La Fondita. For $3.5, you can get one taco with your choice of protein (chicken, roasted pork, chorizo, shredded beef) served on a soft corn tortilla with onions and cilantro. Or you can get five of those for $14. There are also shrimp and fish tacos, but these are a bit more expensive: two shrimp tacos for $8.75, one fish taco for $4.5. The best tacos in The Hamptons, according to many, and some of the best tacos on Long Island as a whole.
La Fondita is open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
74 Montauk Hwy, Amagansett, L.I., NY 11930

Best Tacos on Long Island with Multiple Locations
Besito
With three locations on Long Island and a cute memorable name, Besito must have captured your attention at some point. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should. The whole experience – starting with the ambiance and ending with the food – is amazing regardless of which location you choose. Favorites include roasted sweet potato tacos (warm corn tortillas, roasted corn, spicy pumpkin seeds, queso Asado, and serrano toreado salsa) and pork Costilla tacos (slow-cooked baby back ribs covered in agave chipotle sauce). This may hit the mark for the most trendy and most upscale spot in the race to offer the best tacos on Long Island.
Besito’s Huntington and Roslyn locations are open from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 12 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Sundays. The opening hours of Besito West Islip are 3 p.m. – 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 12 p.m. – 11 p.m. Friday to Sunday.

They are all about hearty portions, affordable prices, the freshest ingredients, made-to-order meals, free tortilla chips, and attentive service that considers all your preferences.
The Mexican eatery offers six types of tacos: Asada (steak), fish, chicken, shrimp, ground beef, and Taco Ranchero (with chicken or steak). All their tacos are flavorful, delicious, and huge – there is so much filling you’ll barely see tortillas under it.

Lucharitos
Lucharitos, which translates as ‘little fighter’, is a local gem, and nobody can argue with that, not when you bring up the fact that the restaurant has four (soon to be five) locations across Long Island. The owners started the business with the desire to serve the community with awesome fresh food in an awesome fresh environment, and well, that’s exactly what Lucharitos represents.
If you haven’t tried their amazing food, now is the perfect time to fix that. Look up the nearest Lucharitos and go for Coconut Shrimp Tacos (coconut shrimp, mango salsa, pickled slaw, chipotle mayo, soft flour tortilla) because you don’t ease your way into great food – you jump right into it. Just a great spot serving up a lot of color, fun, and some of the best tacos on Long Island.
Any of Lucharitos locations will be happy to see you from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Taste of Asia, Asian Fusion Restaurant
Not many people would look at the T.O.A. Asian Fusion restaurant and think, “Hmm, I bet they can make killer tacos”, but if you are one of the extraordinary souls that do think that, you are right. Of course, you won’t find a variety of tacos here – in fact, there is only one kind, and it’s an appetizer – but it will be worth the weirdness of ordering a taco in an Asian restaurant. It’s three soft shells filled with Ceviche-style Maine lobster, mango salsa, cilantro, and jalapeno. These lobster tacos probably won’t make you full, but they will make you happy. Trust me, these are some of the best tacos on Long Island, even though it may not seem like the most logical place for it.
T.O.A. Asian Fusion Restaurant currently has three Long Island locations – in Farmingdale, Huntington, Sayville – and one is coming soon in Melville. Each restaurant has its own opening hours, so visit the website to find out more.
